On-farm energy production: one of the stars of Agritechnica 2007

Bioenergy and biofuel are among the hottest topics in agriculture nowadays and presentation of the associated technology and services is to be a major highlight at the world’s largest agricultural machinery and technology exhibition.
It’s boom time for bioenergy right across the world – and Agritechnica 2007 is right on the ball with its BioEnergy Center. In Hall 27, and adjacent outdoor demonstration areas, over 250 specialist exhibitors companies will be showing farmers how to make the most of the new demand for fuel and power from the fields.
Boosted by climate control legislation and rising mineral oil prices, the German bioenergy sector alone turned over a record EUR 3000 million in 2006. Farmers have won a large share of this cake through biogas, electricity and heat production for sale outside the farm. Now, Agritechnica’s special BioEnergy Center will demonstrate the new possibilities, technologies, products and services for the on-farm earners involving:
- Biogas – from liquid and solid manure, energy crops, reject grain and food industry waste
- Solid biofuels – logs, wood chips, wood/straw pellets, straw and green cuttings
- Liquid biofuels – biodiesel and pure vegetable oils
- Solar and wind energy– photovoltaics, solarthermics, wind turbines
This range of on-farm power production represents huge opportunities for agriculture. But first, farmers need more information on the possibilities and potential profits – and this is exactly what the BioEnergy Center offers. Here, it’s possible to check out single components for on-farm energy production and local heating networks, but also the entire energy production chain. There will be daily demonstrations, presentations by international experts and forum discussions. And for more individual information there’s the Bioenergy Advisory Center on a dedicated stand - open to all interested parties.
There’s also special focus on the timber supply chain with its added value components – in other words from forest cuttings or short-rotation coppices onwards. In association with the Curatorium for Forestry and Forest Technology (KWF), Agritechnica organiser DLG will present practical wood chipping demonstrations, drying facilities and combustion engineering. A short rotation coppice will be presented and actual harvesting demonstrated.
The Agritechnica 2007 farmers from all over the world will have the chance to identify new technologies, innovative ideas and more markets in this thriving and challenging sector. It also offers consultants, R&D personnel the opportunity to gauge the latest developments in this growing sector.
A multi-lingual brochure, published by the DLG, lists the exhibitors according to the categories of biogas, solid bio-fuels, district/local heating, liquid bio-fuels, solar technology, wind energy as well as other services. Further information on Agritechnica together with a map of the hall are also included in the brochure. The Bioenergy Center brochure is available directly from the publisher: The brochure is also available for download here...
