Kassel, straddling the River Fulda, is internationally known for its hillside park Wilhelmshöhe with Wilhelmshöhe Castle and the Kassel water cascades in the Habichtswald wood, as well as for the major documenta art exhibition that has been held there every four to five years since 1955.
